CLOVERMILL ARTIST RESIDENCY

Location: THE NETHERLANDS
Date: June 19th-July 2nd 2023
Represented by The Rafiki Gallery

This collection of work is influenced by the landscape and atmosphere. The constant overlapping of birds chirping and the variety of plants caused me focus on how to recreate that atmosphere in my drawings.
Constructing brushes out of dried plants (pictured below) caused the marks to oscillate between control and uncontrol while capturing the essence of the enivrontment of CloverMill.

The Fifth Line by Aalders and Van Altena touches on clearings within forests, similar to openings within the dense plants along the canals revealing the water and lily pads behind.
This tension and balance between the known and unknown is a theme I have explored previously but not in a setting like this. In combination with my focus on the atmosphere, the sounds of the birds, wind, and water, the spots of colour are starting to act as syntax or punctuation amongst my gestural works.
